My husband and I rewrote “The Twelve Days of Christmas” for your holiday enjoyment.

Four crowded malls,

Three houseguests,

Two bossy six-year-olds,

And a whining four-year-old boy.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Five unwrapped gifts,

Four crowded malls,

Three houseguests,

Two bossy six-year-olds,

And a whining four-year-old boy.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Six kids a-screaming,

Five unwrapped gifts,

Four crowded malls,

Three houseguests,

Two bossy six-year-olds,

And a whining four-year-old boy.

Seven shoppers macing,

Six kids a-screaming,

Five unwrapped gifts,

Nine candles dripping,

      Yup.

      I’m reminded of the line from “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”: “And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again…”

      In all fairness to the kids, they really have been just fine. Only a few of these verses are truly, CURRENTLY autobiographical. 😉
